The Mummy!

Lähettäjä Copplestone Castings - BT1 - Bad Things 1

This fella came with the lady and the man. No basecoat pictures of it, because I started painting this a while ago and didn't occur to took any. It was easy to paint, as there are no tiny details and there are only a couple colors to be used. Still I managed to tinker around it for a long time, as I wasn't pleased with result. But well, here it is. Next I'm going to fix the base. I bougt some JOVI Terracotta Modelling Paste from nearby Saiturin Pörssi store and I'm going to put some of that clay/paste/whatever to it to make it look like a dungeon floor or something. Paint it, too, of course.

I already did a couple of bases this way and they look decent. The only thing here is that it's quite hard to keep the paste from staining the figure, as it is already glued to the base. I have been wondering how these base modifications are made, gluewise speaking. There are lots of sites giving tips about making bases but they ignore the glueing process completely.

It is possible to cut the metal base part off and then put glue under the feet, but it won't hold much if the figure is used in gaming. There must be some drilling and little metal pins/screws/nails to put through the underside in the feet.

Remember to check the gallery as there is another picture of this late pharaoh. And use the zoom tool to see the details. (What details?)

And oh yeah, today I received some stuff from Tritex Games: Blood Bowl Rules Book 3rd Edition (second hand), SF Metal Fantasy Football Selection and three Translucent Green Impact D6 Block Dices. It took the usual seven days to arrive from Britain.

Female Cop

Lähettäjä Copplestone Castings - FW18 - Cops with Handguns

There's also another new pic. Caption texts tell more.

I'm quite happy and feel energetic for this newborn hobby of mine, which I can share with you in the net also. I've been planning on getting some Blood Bowl action and today I went and bought some supplies to create a Blood Bowl table of my own. Well, actually just the field, it's hard to do any carpentry in this flat.

At the moment I got not many BB figures, but I will do some modifying with the miniatures I have, although I think I will not dare to touch the figs from 80's and early 90's, as they are quite cool as they are, even though I don't have any actual game use for them right now. And I'm quite sure that I cannot resist to order some more stuff very soon, again. Also, nowadays there are more BB like games and producers, so not GW monopoly anymore. So there are wide variety of teams/player figures to get.

Copplestone Castings

One of the coolest online stores is called Copplestone Castings. From there I ordered a punch of figures to be used with Cyberpunk RPG, which we have been playing recently. (We = Ari, Mikko, Samu & I.)

I've been visiting the local RPG stores every so often and I've noticed that the Games Workshop stuff they sell is ridiciously priced nowadays. One single figure may cost 10-15 euros! Back in the day, with that money one could get a whole army of metal guys. Well, luckily there is this thing called net and postal orders can be made quite comfortably from home. Although the real life shopping of RPG stuff is really neat, when you can see and touch the things you're going to get.

Anyway, Bad Things 1 is one of the figure packs that I bought. (The underlined part is a link to the Copplestone's page.)

This is one picture from my gallery. Click the pic to see more.

When we used to paint the figures in the olden days, we never used any basecoats or "primers." And it showed. After a few play sessions the paints started to chip away. Now I've spent many hours finding info on net about all this stuff and more. Another thing is the way the minis are held while painting. I remember it being quite hard to keep them between the fingers and trying not to touch the still wet parts. I realised that I could glue them in top of any can or whatever. Just to remember not to use too strong glue, so that they can be easily removed when the painting job is done. Empty tin cans are just great.

Alright now.

Around 1987, when I was 13 years old or so, I discovered Dungeons & Dragons, the amazing fantasy role playing game. Me and my fellas were quite hooked to that right from the beginning. I'm not quite sure since when the game was available from the Finnish book stores, but I guess it had landed on Finland quite recently then.

After a while playing just D&D I realised that there were also other RPG's as well. And that way I soon found out about fantasy miniatures. We played a lot; there were a bunch of guys and everybody wanted to GM something. So, there was Top Secret, Runequest, AD&D, Palladium, Rolemaster, MERP, Traveller, Recon, Star Wars, Space Master, Cyberspace, Harn, Gurps, Warhammer Fantasy RPG & Battle, Shadowrun, Rifts and even Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Just to mention some.

Some of them we played maybe just once, but anyway, the world of RPG's was really the thing for me. And to many others too, it seemed.

Mainly the miniatures were used with Warhammer Fantasy and 40000, also some Blood Bowl (and Dungeon Bowl!) too.

Actively I played for a few years. And then other hobbies took over and RPG's faded to background. There was some rock music to play and pints of beer to drink. I never got fed up with the games, it just seemed to be more and more complicated to get around gaming with friends.

And now, at the age of 35, some twenty years later, I've got back to gaming. Well, at the moment I've mostly bought paints to replace the old, dried ones and also got new figures.

When I searched the net to get info on today's miniature scene, I found some really cool sites dedicated to mini's. And so I decided to set up a figure gallery blog of my own. Photographing is also one of my hobbies, so this is a nice way to combine these interests. Not to mention the whole WWW thing, from which I even got myself a profession.

Jani's Miniatures

In this blog I will tell you about my 25/28mm miniatures. The painting mostly.
